They build discipline, confidence, and a sense of belonging to a community. Activities also build a students resume to exhibit a well rounded student. Plus, it is a great way to make friends and memories!

ACTIVITIES, ACADEMIC AND SERVICE CLUBS
Civitas Discendo - Sponsor: Loren Broaddus (Grades 6-8) -
This is a volunteer activity that Junior High students participate in throughout the year. Hours of volunteering are tracked and monitored. Students obtaining enough hours (25) are recognized for their service at the Memories Assembly in the spring (7th and 8th will be recognized at Honor Day).
Debate – Sponsor: Heather Walters (Grades 6-12)
Speech and Debate is a team that competes in Speech and Debate contests around the area. The team meets after school, contact sponsor for schedules. (6-8 start in the spring)
Yearbook – Sponsor: Amanda Montileone (Grades 9-12)
Members of this club are in the Yearbook class and perform the duties necessary directed by the instructor/sponsor.
Ambassadors – Sponsor: Jeni Hopkins (Grades 10-12)
Each spring students may apply to be an Ambassador. A committee of faculty and staff meet to select the best candidates based on character, academics, and teacher recommendations. The Ambassadors act as hosts at school functions, assist teachers at the beginning of the school year and volunteer to assist at other Greenwood activities.
Greenwood Sustainable Service Society – Sponsor: Jennifer Grace (Grades 9-12)
A club dedicated to promoting responsible citizenship in a fun and safe atmosphere. Members are given opportunities to help with school wide projects that teach each member about the importance of helping others. Members strive to make a difference in their communities by recycling, reducing waste, saving energy, and conserving resources. In addition to the long-range benefits of good environmental stewardship, it helps provide healthier surroundings for the students and staff of GLS.
Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)–Sponsors: Mike Percival/Christian Madsen (Grades 9-12)
Members meet each month to promote the ideals of Christian beliefs and attitudes. Membership is open to any student who wishes to support organizational efforts to ensure Christian beliefs and attitudes are evident in athletics as well as everyday life. All are welcome.
Science Olympiad (Grades 6-12)/Greenwood Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Collaborative – Sponsors , Kristy Gilmore, Christian Madsen, Chris Adams, Cory Fearing, Dave Duff (Grades 6-12)
The mission of the Greenwood STEM Collaborative is to:
promote and support student interest in STEM fields and related activities,
collaborate and communicate with the Greenwood community, the Missouri State
University community, and the Southwest Missouri area community,
promote student leadership in STEM fields,
provide organization and support for science clubs at Greenwood,
engage students as leaders and mentors in science competition s
and provide an avenue for members of the Greenwood family to support STEM at Greenwood.
The Greenwood STEM Collaborative is open to students in grades 7-12 and will serve as an umbrella organization for STEM competitions and STEM activities at Greenwood Laboratory School. The Greenwood STEM Collaborative will support the Science Olympiad, Science Fair, Robotics Club, Stream Team, and additional groups and/or competitions as decided upon by the membership.
H.O.S.A.– Sponsor: Kristy Gilmore (Grades 9-12)
Health Occupations Students of America is a competitive club focused on medicine.
Math Club - Sponsors: Jacob Anderson, Abby Burch
The high school Math Club meets throughout the school year. Club officers include a President, Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer and Pi Day Co-Chair. Officers are elected at the annual organizational meeting with the President being a senior member of the organization. Math Club activities include the preparation and hosting of the school's Pi Day Celebration held on or near March 14th each year and participation in local, state and national math competitions.
MAT Mu Alpha Theta - Mu Alpha Theta is a national High School and Junior and Community College Mathematics Honor Society. In order to qualify a student must have no semester grade lower than an A- in Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2. A Student is invited to join after completion of these courses. Greenwood received their charter on December 2, 2002.

National Honor Society – Sponsor: Jennifer Holden, Abby Burch (Grades 11-12)
The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
Student Council – Sponsor: Jacob Anderson (Grades 6-12)
Student Council is the governing organization of the student body. It is composed of an Executive Committee consisting of the President, Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer and Assemblies Commissioner. Other Student Council members are elected from each grade level, (7 - 12). Each grade has three voting members: two Representatives and the Class President. The Student Council provides an opportunity for its members to acquire training in leadership, government and democracy. The goals are to promote school spirit, citizenship, scholarship and a better understanding between the faculty and students. These goals are promoted through a number of activities including Homecoming, and Honor Day.
Scholar Bowl – Jennifer Grace (Grades 9-12)
Scholar Bowl can be characterized as a competition in which subject matter in multiple academic disciplines is used. It features head-to-head academic team competition, quick response answers, time limits on questions and use of a buzzer system. Practices take place during lunch and competitions occur on Thursday nights.
International Club – Tamra Barnhouse and Nancy Bareford (Grades 9-12)
The International Club celebrates the beautiful diversity found in our country, state, and community. Learn about different cultures and appreciate the traditions of countries around the world.
Vocal Music/Band - Dr. Sheri Slater, Debbie Futrell (Grades 6-12)
Our musical department is tremendous! Improve your skills and exhibit them during concerts and contests. See the instructors for more information.
Archery Club – Jon Ewing (Grades 6-8)

Practices are once a week after school.
Robotics Club – Dave Duff (9-12)
To teach high school students how to design, program, and test robots.
Inventor’s Club – Melinda Hammerschmidt (9-12)
To engage students in the creative process of inventing including the mental process of recognizing problems and coming up with ideas to solve them, and to protect those ideas using the legal process.
Media/Film Club – Tim Pfeil and Kristy Gilmore (8-12)
To engage in film as an art and review different genres.
Peer to Peer – Jennifer Grace (7-12)
A MS and HS mentoring and service club.

Speech and Debate FCA Inventor's Club
