Greenwood secondary students, grades 6-12, moved into their new Silver LEED certified Science Scholars' Laboratory in the fall of 2011. The facility houses two state-of-the-art laboratories, offices, study nooks and a student atrium.

At Greenwood, K-12 students have state-of-the-art science laboratories and learn using the latest technology. Students in fifth grade through twelfth grade use electronic textbooks for many core subjects. Kindergarten through 4th grade use i-pads in the classroom.

Ever-changing technology is used to enhance the hands-on experience for our students and encourages students to explore topics thoroughly. Integrating new technology into classroom learning is crucial as a laboratory school and Greenwood strives to meet the needs of our students, our experienced educators and the college students training to become teachers.

  • Students in 6th grade Computer Science will be introduced to a wide variety of fun and engaging activities in the fields of photo and video editing, computer coding, stop motion animation, augmented and virtual reality, robotics, and much more.

Description:

  • Students in 7/8th grade Computer Science will be introduced to Python, a very popular coding language used in a wide variety of coding projects including gaming and robotics.  

    • 1st Quarter:  Introduction to Video with WeVideo

      • Working with video editing tools

      • Green screen

      • Animation

    • 2nd Quarter: Introduction to Web Design

      • Learning the HTML coding language

    • 3rd Quarter:  Introduction to Python Block Coding

      • Learn the Basics of Python through an easy to use, drag-and-drop coding environment

    • 4th Quarter:  Introduction to Robotics and Automation

Description:

  • High School Computer Science: Coding, Robotics, Gaming , and Graphic Design is a challenging course where students learn how to create applications using the Python programming language and apply those skills to the programming of multiple robots.  In addition, students will be introduced to graphic design through such applications Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and In-Design.  This course is open to all high school students.  There are no prerequisites.

    • 1st Semester:  Introduction to Python.  

      • Introduced in 1991, Python is a high-level, interpreted, general-purpose programming language. It is currently one of the leading programming languages taught in universities and used by developers worldwide.  

      • Introduction to programming sensors

    • 3rd Quarter:  Robotics and Automation

      • Students code multiple robotic vehicles to have them complete a variety of tasks.

    • 4th Quarter:  Graphic Design

      • Introduction to Adobe Photoshop

      • Introduction to Adobe In-Design

      • Introduction to Adobe Illustrator
