Student of the week Harper Popek’s mom, Amber, and her dad, Dr. Jeremy, presented interesting information to the first grade class. Student’s learned about Harper’s family and her pet Chihuahua, Mya.
Harper’s mom is a Certified Public Account at Forvis, where she is employed and also a part owner. After sharing what an accountant does each day and answering questions, the students were each given a Forvis journal for “calculating fun math problems” and then got to try using antique adding machines and calculators. Harpers dad is a Pharmacist with Evans Drug Health Mart Pharmacy and travels to several locations around Missouri. Dr. Popek shared what a pharmacist does each day then talked about what students should do if they find a pill bottle or medications. Students also learned that a pharmacist is an “educator” who talks to patients about how to take medications, administers injections, and shares wellness tips. Harper provided a tasty treat, a super-sized doughnut from Gold-N-Glaze doughnuts!
Kindergartners got to LEARN, DISCOVER, and PLAY during their field trip to the Discovery Center!
We are so proud of them!

The First-Grade Helpful Hedgehogs learned about different types of rocks, read about rocks and mindnesz with Ms. Borneman in the library and painted rocks in art with Ms. Grace.
Students wrote kind messages on the rocks. Mrs. Gray's Third Grade class, first grades reading buddies, helped hide the rocks on the playground. If you find a special tock you nay keep it, take it home and create another rock to bring back to school. Kindness Rocks💙
Congratulations to our hard working students and coaches! Go Science Olympiad! Good luck at STATE!

Hooray for the 100th day! Kindergarten celebrated 100 days of learning and growing together by creating shirts with 100 objects on them. They also wrote about what life will be like when they are 100 years old, jumped for 100 seconds, counted to 100 in a variety of ways, and had a special snack.

First Grade Candy Heart Science and STEM Exploration
First Graders discovered that the candy hearts would not dissolve in the liquids that they tried.
Students used clear carbonated drinks, lemon juice, vinegar, sugar water and cooking oil.
The lemon juice removed the message off of the candy hearts.
The candy hearts that were in the vinegar did not dissolve but they appeared to increase in size and their appearance changed.
Students also measured classroom items and stacked candy hearts.
