Service Society members Anna McQueary, Sunny Slater, and Minal Khan accompanied Ty Mwengi to present to the Elementary classes. Ty and his family will be traveling to Kenya this Winter and Ty has organized a fundraiser to provide school supplies and books to 2 primary schools in Kenya. He created a presentation for the elementary classes. Sustainable Service and Peer2Peer adopted 30 children from the Fairbanks for Christmas. Students wrapped the presents on Wednesday and will take them to the Fairbanks on Monday for their Christmas Party.

5th graders culminated our unit on the 50 states with a research and creative project. They each chose a state and found specific facts to create a float and then presented their findings to the class. They did an exceptional job on the entire assignment.

Kindergartners are Thankful! Kindergarten students listened to the book “Balloons Over Broadway,” which is about the puppeteer who invented the balloons for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. They created their own “balloons” and had a Thanksgiving parade. Kindergarten students also celebrated with a “Charlie Brown” style Thanksgiving feast, complete with toast, popcorn, jellybeans, and pretzels. They learned that Thanksgiving isn’t just about turkey… it’s about being grateful, and spending time with family and friends. Happy Thanksgiving!

Jack’s dad, Alex Wilson, came in to visit for Jacks student of the week personation. Mr. Wilson read Dr. Seuss book Maybe You Should Fly a Jet, Maybe You Should Be a Vet and discussed career options with the students. He discussed his choice to be a stay at home dad while Jack and his sister are young. Students loved exploring careers they might consider in the future.
