First Grade students continued the Greenwood Tradition Friday April 19, 2024 with the Inspiring Americans presentation. Students researched an individual who has made a significant contribution that inspires others often in the face of adversity. Original Visual Language poetry was performed outlining how their person overcame adversity to become an inspiration. Students learned to conduct beginning research skills and how to disseminate important information while creating paper bag books. This year students portrayed authors, artist, sports figures, dancers, musicians, scientists, and inventors. Outstanding job First Graders!

Congratulations to Tristan Khoshyomn who earned All-State recognition in two events at the MSHSAA State Speech and Debate tournament held at Missouri State University last weekend! Tristan placed 7th in the state in International Extemporaneous Speaking and 8th Place in the State in Original Oratory. 111 schools and 769 students from across Missouri participated in the competition. Tristan’s performances were exceptional for a sophomore competing at this high level. Tristan will also be competing this summer in the NSDA National Speech and Debate tournament for the second time in his high school career. The tournament will be held in Des Moines, Iowa in June. Go Jays!

Third grade celebrated their Night of Notables this week. This is a wonderful tradition where students research, write a biography, create a tri fold, memorize a speech, and present as that person for an evening event!

Today Hannah and Hallie taught a lesson on engineers. Students were divided into 5 groups, worked together to create a plan, and an illustration of a solution to a task. After deciding upon their solution students were given supplies to create the design and challenged to work as a team to construct their design. We love collaborating with MSU Education Majors.

5th graders got to be engineers as we learned from MSU science pre-service teachers. The goal was to protect an egg as it was dropped - some of us were successful! Thank you to Dr. Wood’s science class! We had an egg-cellent time!
