5th graders celebrated Victoria Guo’s winning Arbor Day poster on Friday. A yellowwood tree was planted in Victoria’s name. Sorry that Victoria was unable to be there. We have special prizes for her return! Thanks for helping us make our outdoors better Victoria!

Third grade celebrated their Night of Notables this week. This is a wonderful tradition where students research, write a biography, create a tri fold, memorize a speech, and present as that person for an evening event!

Today Hannah and Hallie taught a lesson on engineers. Students were divided into 5 groups, worked together to create a plan, and an illustration of a solution to a task. After deciding upon their solution students were given supplies to create the design and challenged to work as a team to construct their design. We love collaborating with MSU Education Majors.

5th graders got to be engineers as we learned from MSU science pre-service teachers. The goal was to protect an egg as it was dropped - some of us were successful! Thank you to Dr. Wood’s science class! We had an egg-cellent time!

On April 10, twenty-one Greenwood students competed in the 52nd annual Pummill Math Relays at Missouri State University. This year, approximately 400 students represented 21 schools from across the state competing in a variety of team and individual events. The Algebra 1 team consisting of Adam Abdalla, Cullen Burch, Connor Manzardo, and Madhav Nair earned 2nd place recognition in our division. The Geometry team consisting of Egan Asay, Hadassah Fong, Thomas Lin, and Harrison Slater earned 1st place recognition in our division. The 4th Year Mathematics team consisting of Jesse Davies, Tay Lee, Joaquin Parada, and Anya Soni earned 2nd place recognition in our division. In addition to the team events, we had several students place in the individual competitions! In the individual competitions, students compete head-to-head against approximately 40 students from across the state. Adam Abdalla earned 4th place in an Algebra 1 individual competition. Tay Lee earned 4th place in a Geometry individual competition and earned 5th place in a 4th Year Mathematics individual competition. Gary Zenhui earned 1st place in an Algebra 2 individual competition. And Matthew Whitworth earned 2nd place in a Mathematical Reasoning individual competition, where emphasis was placed on solving unique and challenging problems! Additionally, our students earned Greenwood 3rd place recognition out of all participating schools in solving the Challenging Problems, a series of extremely challenging and difficult problems to which they all contribute solutions. Mrs. Burch & Mr. Anderson are extremely proud of all of the students who participated in the Pummill Math Relays. Congratulations Greenwood Mathletes!
